If you pay attention to what our adventurous friends are doing, then you'll see that they're very rarely at tourist destinations. You will almost never see them talking about a popular landmark. Instead, you'll see them talking about an exciting experience in a place you've probably never heard of.
Look for Best Price Guarantees
When you're trying to book a vacation online, you should pay special attention to companies that offer best price guarantees. If you're able to find a lower price from a different company, you'll usually be able to get a refund for the difference plus additional rewards.
Most of the time this isn't something you need to worry about. Most companies that offer "best price guarantees" are confident that they're offering the lowest price. It's going to be pretty difficult to get lower prices elsewhere.
Don't Underestimate Transportation
I'm not talking about your flight. I'm talking about the cost of moving around once you get to your destination. Make sure you understand the costs associated with moving from one activity to another, as well as how close those activities are to your hotel. Try to figure out how much you're going to be paying for public transportation, gas, or your rental car. It might end up being a lot more than you think.
If you're visiting a large city, you can sometimes get passes for public transportation. These passes are offered to tourists at large discounts, and can save you a decent amount of money.
